Due to emissions and polluted air, Pakistani authorities have closed schools and markets this week. Lahore, the largest city in the eastern part of the country, has faced alarming levels of air pollution. The Lahore administration has imposed a temporary ban on outdoor activities from November 11 to 17 due to the deteriorating situation with smog. The ban relates to the holding of sports events, fairs, and also street gatherings. All shops and markets should be closed by 8:00 PM, except for essential services. Violators will be penalized according to the law; residents are recommended to limit outings and wear masks.
Additionally, schools for older students have been closed until the following week. Lahore, which is home to 14 million people, is known for its industrial enterprises on the border with India, and it regularly appears on the list of the most polluted cities in the world. However, this month pollution levels have reached record highs.
