Projectiles were launched from Pakistan towards Afghan territory, according to an Afghan military source and witnesses on Thursday, the day of resumption of bilateral talks aimed at establishing a ceasefire between the two countries.
Earlier, Afghanistan and Pakistan said they would resume peace talks in Istanbul on Thursday after a previous round ended without agreement on a sustainable ceasefire.
Witnesses reported that the shelling lasted between ten and fifteen minutes.
The two countries' armies clashed last month, resulting in casualties.
The military source, who asked not to be named, confirmed that Pakistan "used light and heavy weapons and targeted civilian areas", adding, "We have not responded yet out of respect for the ongoing talks in Istanbul".
